MHEC - Important Update for the Guaranteed Access Grant Program

The Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) within the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), would like to inform you that due to the extended closure of all Maryland schools, the deadline date for the 2020-2021 Guaranteed Access (GAG) Grant program has been extended to June 1, 2020.

MHEC is in the process of notifying all potentially eligible GA Grant recipients that the deadline has been extended. The new deadline of June 1, 2020, will also be updated on our website and on the applicants’ To-Do List in the Maryland College Aid Processing System (MDCAPS) in the coming days.

Effective immediately, MHEC will accept documentation for the GA Grant program by email or mail. All required documentation must be submitted by June 1, 2020:

Finally, please note the deadline for students to submit documentation for the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship program will remain June 15, 2020.

Some colleges are relaxing their admission requirements, such as no application fee, accepting unofficial transcripts, and extending their application deadline. Make sure you check each college website for these changes.

The panel series will include a presentation about the school from our panelists, followed by a live Q&A session where students can submit questions.

The College Board website contains Free Resources to assist students with preparing for the SAT Test, finding information about colleges, comparing colleges, a career finder tool, and much more.

Charles County Government Summer Internships for high school juniors and seniors who wish to gain work experience and learn about local government. The 12 week paid internships will be available in a variety of Charles County Departments.

The internship programs run June 8th - August 14th with some flexibility dependent upon the hiring department. Summer interns will work up to 28 hours per week, at $11.11 per hour. The deadline to apply is Sunday, May 3rd. Application are being accepted online at:

This is a great opportunity to show students how government works whether it be learning about water treatment to seeing the Court or Library system up close to helping design a video with CCGTV.

The 2020 Summer Internship program is subject to change and/or cancellation based on necessary budget adoption and extended COVID-19 pandemic response measures. All applicants will be notified of any changes or cancellations.



"The Future Belongs To Those Who Prepare For It Today"

The North Point High School College & Career Center is the main source of information on the college process and career planning. Students can research information about careers, colleges, universities, technical schools, apprenticeship programs, military service, volunteer and/or job opportunities, financial aid and scholarships. Throughout the school year activities and informational programs are planned for students and several evening workshops are scheduled for parents.


The College & Career Center is located in the School Counseling Office. Students are free to visit the Career Center to take advantage of all the resources it has to offer, in the morning before classes start, during lunch, or after school with an appointment. Visits during class time require a pass from a teacher.


The College & Career Center Monthly Newsletter is published monthly with important information on upcoming events, colleges, careers, and scholarship opportunities.
