Welcome to the Counseling Center website for St. Charles High School!

Our school counselors advise students on course scheduling and assist them in making appropriate choices to achieve their future goals. We provide information on programming available in career/technology areas, as well as the various levels of academic coursework. We assist with the organization of PSAT/SAT/ACT testing, college, military, and business recruitment efforts, and scholarship and financial aid opportunities. We offer brief, solution-focused counseling services to students who are experiencing problems in any area that affects their academic performance.

Please view the links to the left to meet the counseling center staff and for more information on the services available through the St. Charles High School counseling center.

Address Changes
If you have moved to a new address, but still reside in the St. Charles High School attendance zone, you must submit the following updated information to Mrs. Kimes in the counseling office in order for the change to be made to your child's record. This will ensure that you receive report cards and other important information by mail.

Homework Requests
It is important that students keep up with their studies and make up all missed assignments when they are absent from school. The counseling office staff is able to provide assistance with obtaining work from teachers when students are out of school on a prolonged absence (5 days or more). Students who are absent for a short period of time (1-4 days) should return to school with a note verifying the reason for their absence and obtain the work they missed from their classroom teachers upon their return.

Requesting Homework for Long-Term Absences (5+ Days)

  • Parents should contact the school counseling office secretary to request work.
  • Teachers will be notified of the request and will have 24 hours to submit the assignments to the counseling office.
  • Parents may pick up assignments from the counseling office in the afternoon on the day following their request. Parents are encouraged to call ahead to see if work is ready for pickup.

MVA Learner's Permit
Students applying for a learners permit under the age of 16 must have a Learner's Permit School Attendance Certification form (DL-300). These forms are available in the counseling office.

Review the guidelines on the MVA website for complete information.
Download the form from the link above or pick up in the counseling center.
After completing your part of the form submit it to the Ms. Thompson in the main office.
Provide the completed form in the sealed, unopened envelope, to the MVA when you apply for your learner's permit.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Counselors are available to facilitate conferences involving parents and classroom teachers. Prior to requesting a conference, parents should:

  • Check ParentVUE and communicate directly with the classroom teacher(s) via phone or email. In many cases questions or concerns can be satisfactorily addressed in this way.

If direct contact with the teacher by the means above does not alleviate the concern, parents should contact their child's counselor directly (by phone or email) to request a parent/teacher conference. Please be aware that counselors only facilitate conferences after school and can only facilitate one conference at a time, so there may be a delay between the date of the request and the date of the conference.

Registrations/New Enrollments
Parents needing to register their child for school must do so in person in the counseling center. Parents are asked to call ahead for a registration appointment so that we can be sure a counselor is available to assist you when you arrive. Items that must be presented at the time of registration include:

  • Photo ID - parent/guardian
  • Two (2) current proofs of domicile within the St. Charles HS attendance zone
  • Immunization record
  • Birth certificate
  • Academic record from school previously attended

Please note that there may be a short delay between the date of a student's registration and the first day that he/she is able to attend school. This delay allows our counselors time to review the student's academic record and create the appropriate class schedule for the student to follow upon starting at St. Charles High School.
