*Support during Covid-19:

Greetings!  While we are out of school, I will be providing support and updates as I receive them about things pertaining to the Career Center.  If you should have any questions that I may be able to assist you with, please feel free to contact me.  I know this is an extremely confusing and stressful time for students and their families; I want to do everything I can to assist you.  I will continue to update the list below as I receive updated information.

*UPDATES:

3/19/20 - CSM Placement/Accuplacer Test UPDATE - At this time, the College of Southern Maryland will be working remotely until at least April 6, 2020.  Due to this change, the CSM Placement Test scheduled to be administered on Friday, April 3, 2020 to Seniors at SCHS, has been cancelled.  Once we are back in school, we will look at the calendar to see if this test can be rescheduled on another date to be given at SCHS.  Please refer to the update dated 3/13/20 above, for more information about the CSM Placement/Accuplacer Test and how students can access resources on CSM's website to start preparing for the test.

3/18/20 - ALL scholarships that were on the List of Scholarships for March and indicated they were available to pick up in the Career Center, are now available for students to access under the Scholarships Section listed below. Please SEE BELOW and CLICK on the NAME of the scholarship OR where it says to CLICK HERE.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you are in need of an official transcript for a scholarship and we are not back in school by the scholarship deadline, please print off a copy of your 7 semester transcript from your Student Vue account (7 semester transcript can be found under the documents tab) and attach a note indicating that you are not able to get an official transcript at this time because schools are closed due to Covid-19.  Explain that you will get an official transcript once you return to school.  If you are in need of any letters of recommendation, please email your teachers to see if they will be able to send you one.  Please provide the teacher/recommender with your resume to help them write your letter of recommendation.  Also, please let them know the date you will need to have the letter of recommendation.

3/16/20 - The ASVAB that was scheduled to be administered on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 will not be conducted.  The agency that administers the ASVAB notified me that they have currently suspended all testing indefinitely and will not be rescheduling until they have a better understanding of the situation.  You are encouraged to use the resources available below, under the Military and ASVAB Section, to help you prepare for the test.

3/13/20 - The CSM Placement/Accuplacer Test is scheduled to be administered on Friday, April 3, 2020 to any SENIORS who are planning to attend CSM after they graduate from high school.  At this time, I am not sure if we are still going to be able to have the test administered at St. Charles High School on the scheduled date.  Please email me your name so I can add you to my list.  Once we are back in school, please stop by the Career Center to finish signing up to take the test.  Once we return, I will also work with the school administrators and the College of Southern Maryland to confirm whether or not we will still be able to administer the test at school.  If for any reason the test is not able to be administered at school, you will still be able to take the CSM Placement/Accuplacer Test at the CSM campus.  Please CLICK HERE for an Information Sheet that is provided to students who plan to take the test.    I would highly encourage students to use this time to start preparing for the test.  For more information about resources to help you prepare for the test, please CLICK HERE and you will be directed to the College of Southern Maryland's website.

The St. Charles High School College & Career Center has a wide variety of resources available to assist students as they prepare for their future after high school.  Planning for the future is important!  There are many post-secondary options open to high school graduates.  Some serious thinking and planning will make a student's post-high school transition easier.  It is important for students to organize their thoughts and ideas about their goals and what they need to do to achieve them.  The College & Career Center provides students the opportunity to research information about careers, colleges, universities, technical schools, apprenticeship programs, military servicefinancial aid and scholarships. Throughout the school year, activities and informational programs are planned for students and several evening workshops are scheduled for both parents and students.

The College & Career Center is located next to the School Counseling Office. Students are free to visit the Career Center to take advantage of all the resources it has to offer in the morning before classes start, during the activity period, during lunch, during the day with a pass from a teacher, or after school with an appointment.
