Charles County Scholarship Fund, Inc.

The Charles County Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to Charles County high school seniors. The following county groups – the Charles County Commissioners, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS), the College of Southern Maryland and the Chamber of Commerce – are always represented on the Scholarship Fund Board. All other members of the Board are selected from the community at large.

How To Apply

  • Electronic online application is open.  Click here to apply.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Application progress cannot be saved. Please ensure you have all required documents ready to upload to the application prior to starting to complete the form.
  • All scholarship applications must be completed and submitted by March 1, 2019
  • Late applications will not be accepted
  • Seniors should see their counselor or the College and Career Advisor with questions/concerns

Below are the scholarships available for Charles County students:

Merit Scholarships Criteria Amount
Jeremiah and Elijah Borgnis Memorial Scholarship Previous graduate or a graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident, must major in Visual Arts. $500
Unnae Pak-Borgnis Memorial Scholarship Previous graduate or a graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident, must major in Music. $500
Charles County Health Department and School Nurses’ Scholarship Graduating senior or first-year nursing student with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident who plans to enroll or is enrolled in a registered nursing program. $250
Charles County Teacher Education Assistance Grant Charles County resident must major in Teacher Education and intend to apply for a teaching position in CCPS after graduation. $1000 renewable
John H. Cox Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior/scholar athlete with four varsity letters and a minimum 3.75 GPA, Charles County resident. $1000
Ronald G. Cunningham Scholarship Graduating senior from each CCPS high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA, Charles County resident who is planning to enroll full-time in Teacher Education.  (One scholarship is given at each CCPS high school). $2500
Harding Memorial Future Educator Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County high school who is a Charles County resident planning to enroll full-time int he fall in Teacher Education.  Preference is given to a member of a high school chapter of Future Educators of America (FEA) $1000
William and Vivian King Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County high school with a minimum 3.2 GPA, Charles County resident.  (One scholarship is given at each CCPS high school). $1000
Kiwanis Club of Charles County Ronald G. Cunningham Scholarship An active Key Club member in good standing who is graduating from a CCPS high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA; Charles County resident.  Must include a brief statement outlining your community participation through Key Club and an additional letter of recommendation from your Key Club Leader or Club Liaison. $500
La Plata Garden Club Scholarship Graduating senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident and U.S. citizen who plans to major in Plant Science, Environmental Science, Animal Science, or Horticulture at an accredited college or university. $1000
Warren J. Luke and Betty F. Luke Scholarship –
4 Year School
Graduating senior from a Charles County high school with a minimum 3.5 GPA, Charles County resident who plans to enroll at a 4-year college.  (One scholarship is given at each CCPS high school). $5000
Warren J. Luke and Betty F. Luke Scholarship –
2-year school
Graduating senior from a Charles County high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident who plans to enroll at a 2-year college or an accredited vocational/technical school.  (Two scholarships are given at each CCPS high school). $2500
Timothy Minor Criminal Justice Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident, must major in Criminal Justice. $500
Rachel Snyder Trade School Scholarship Graduating senior or former graduate from a CCPS high school who will attend or is attending an accredited vocational/technical school.  Charles County resident. $500
Eric Sawchak Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA who is on the high school Golf Team, Charles County resident. $1000
Professor V. Phillips Weaver Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA who plans to attend The College of William and Mary or the University of Maryland in College Park. $1000
Patricia Sugg Weiers Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school, Charles County resident, must major in Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Music, or Creative Writing. $250
Zonta of Charles County Scholarship Graduating female senior from a CCPS high school who demonstrates accomplishments in community service and leadership, has faced a significant roadblock or challenge and who plans to pursue a profession that will benefit women or children; Charles County resident. (Two awards) $1000

Carol E. Goodwin Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA,  Charles County resident showing financial need and planning to major in Teacher Education. (One scholarship is given at each CCPS high school.) $2000
Charles County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Graduating senior with a minimum 2.5 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need and planning to be a full-time business major at the College of Southern Maryland $500
Charles County Retired School Personnel Association Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 2.75 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need, must major in Teacher Education.  (One scholarship is given at each CCPS high school.) $1000
John Howie Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, who played a high school sport all four years, Charles County resident showing financial need. (Two awards – one for a female and one for a male athlete.) $500
Kenneth Bernard Proctor Sr. Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a 3.0 or lower GPA showing financial need, Charles County resident. $500
Lisa Michele Duckett Achievement Award Graduating senior from CCPS high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need. $1000
Robert Dean Stethem National Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior who is a U.S. citizen with a minimum 2.5 GPA showing financial need.  $1000
Ronald G. Cunningham Nursing Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.5 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need and planning to enroll in a college program to attain a BS in Nursing. $500
Starkey Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school, Charles County resident showing financial need, preference given to a student planning to attend West Virginia University. $500
Stephen E. Mitchell Educational Scholarship Graduating senior from CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, showing financial need, Charles County resident planning to enroll in a math, science or engineering program. $500
Thomas B.R. Mudd Nurse Scholarship Graduate of a CCPS high school showing financial need, born in and residing in Charles County, planning to practice nursing at Charles Regional Medical Center after graduation, major in nursing at the College of Southern Maryland. Full two years
Thomas B.R. Mudd Teaching Scholarship Graduate of a CCPS high school showing financial need, born in and residing in Charles County, planning to teach in Charles County after graduation, major in teacher education at the College of Southern Maryland. Full two years
Tiny Hopes Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school showing financial need, Charles County resident. (Three awards) $1000


HENRY E. LACKEY HIGH SCHOOL Graduating Seniors Only

Darren A. Bowie Scholarship Graduating senior from Lackey High School with a minimum 3.5 GPA who has taken two years of AP English. Charles County resident. $1000
Katherine D. Racey Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from Lackey High School with a minimum 3.0 GPA, must major in Math Education, Education or math-related field. $1500
Mildred Rice O’Callaghan Scholarship Graduating senior from Lackey High School with a minimum 3.0 GPA, showing financial need, Charles County resident. (Two awards – one scholarship for a student entering a vocational/technical school and one scholarship for a student entering a 2- or 4-year college.) $500
Thomas Kurtz Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from Lackey High School with a minimum 3.2 GPA, Charles County resident. A separate application, available at the Career Center, is required. $1000


LA PLATA HIGH SCHOOL Graduating Seniors Only

Grote Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from La Plata High School with a minimum 2.5 GPA showing financial need, Charles County resident with a talent for golf. $500
Mary Matula Scholarship Graduating senior from La Plata High School showing scholarship, leadership and service to school and community. $500
Michael J. Anderson Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from La Plata High School with a minimum 3.5 GPA, Charles County resident. Most complete an additional essay (up to 300 words) describing the applicant’s commitment to and demonstrated performance in community service. $1000


MAURICE J. MCDONOUGH HIGH SCHOOL Graduating Seniors Only

Micheal S. Tayman Memorial  Music Scholarship Graduating senior from McDonough High School with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident who plans on a major or minor in music. $1000
Micheal S. Tayman Memorial Nursing Scholarship Graduating senior from McDonough High School with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident who plans on entering a nursing program. $1000
Timothy Minor memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from McDonough High School with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident. $500


NORTH POINT HIGH SCHOOL Graduating Seniors Only

Edward Rorer Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA who is enrolled in a Career and Technology Center/ North Point CTE/STI class. $500
Jacob Steele Memorial Thespian Scholarship Graduating senior from North Point High School with a minimum 2.0 GPA who is a member of Thespian Troupe #7040 and a Charles County resident. Must complete scholarship specific essay. (2 awards) $500
Lizbeth Frazer-Fatig Helping Hand Scholarship Previous graduate or a graduating senior from North Point High School with a minimum 3.75 or lower GPA, who plans to attend college or an accredited vocational/technical school. Charles County resident showing financial need, preference given to a student with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan. $4000

Destanee K. Lyles Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from Westlake High School with a minimum 2.0 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need. $1000
