Telework Program SY 2024-25
Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is offering a telework option to eligible employees for the 2024-2025 school year. An employee’s telework status begins upon supervisor approval and ends in June 2025.
The Office of Human Resources is overseeing the program for CCPS. All employees interested in applying to telework should review the training videos posted below.
A list of eligible CCPS positions that fall under either the EACC or AFSMCE negotiated agreement is linked below. Click on the Eligible Positions drop-down menu. The following is important information about the telework program.
Three types of telework arrangements are available for employees:
- Recurrent telework: Telework which occurs on a regular, recurring basis at an alternate work site. (Note: Recurrent telework is not available for school-based employees except during summer months with supervisor approval. For example, IEP facilitators, PPWs, school psychologists, etc. based out of Central Office are expected to follow schools).
- Intermittent telework: Employee works regularly from their primary work site, but would telework for limited periods of time based on specific circumstances or job responsibilities that could be accommodated by teleworking.
- Situational telework: Telework for an employee that is approved on a case-by-case basis, or that is not part of a regular telework schedule.
For the 2024-2025 school year, an inclement weather telework option has been added.
-
Inclement weather telework: When schools are closed for students and staff due to inclement weather, but 12-month employees must report to work, telework-eligible 12-month staff have the option to report to work, request telework, or take unscheduled leave. Additionally, and specific to inclement weather-related telework requests, the following guidance applies:
-
Supervisors may approve all telework requests on inclement weather days when schools are closed for students and (non-12-month) staff.
-
Special considerations are given on those emergency days due to hazardous conditions on local roads and closures of childcare.
-
-
If an employee deems conditions to be safe, they may report to work in-person rather than teleworking.
-
Teleworking on inclement weather days will not affect other telework arrangements that were pre-approved or have already occurred.
-
For instance, if an employee has a scheduled situational or recurring telework day on Tuesday and it snows on Friday causing schools to close, the employee may also telework on Friday with supervisor approval (see first sub-bullet above).

-
General footnotes: Eligible employees must follow all telework guidelines and complete an electronic application for manager/supervisor approval, even if on short notice or qualifies for automatic approval, as outlined above.
-
When completing the application, employees must be sure they choose their current/correct supervisor's name in the drop-down box, so their application routes to the correct manager for consideration.
-
Employees should not expect an immediate response from their supervisor.
-
Employees requesting telework will receive an email notification of their telework approval or denial.
-
They should follow up with their supervisor if they do not receive a response by the day before their telework request date.
-
-
Supervisors and department chiefs have the authority to approve or deny telework requests based on the operational needs of the system and may periodically review telework agreements to ensure compliance.
-
If in-person support is required on a previously approved telework day, employees may be asked to report onsite.
-
Telework privileges may be temporarily revoked or rescinded if an employee is found in violation of established program guidelines, such as being unavailable, unproductive, or unresponsive during telework hours.
