Note: The following is a letter sent Jan. 23, 2026, from Superintendent of Schools Maria V. Navarro, Ed.D., to parents and guardians of students who attend Charles County Public Schools.
January 23, 2026
Good afternoon, Parents and Families.
As you are all likely aware, Charles County is under a winter storm warning this weekend, with snow, sleet, ice and freezing rain being discussed in local forecasts. The winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service for Charles County starts at 11 p.m. tomorrow night and extends to 4 a.m. Monday morning.
Below are some important Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) updates as the school system prepares for inclement weather. Any changes to the CCPS operating schedule will be shared with you with as much advance notice as possible to ensure the safety of our staff, students and families.
Saturday, Jan. 24 — CCPS activities end by 6 p.m.
All CCPS activities scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, must end by 6 p.m. This is a precaution as the weather event is set to begin tomorrow night. Students attending CCPS out-of-county field trips must be back in Charles County by 6 p.m. Staff and trip sponsors were notified of this change.
Sunday, Jan. 25 – CCPS facilities closed
CCPS will be closed on Sunday, Jan. 25. The closure includes all CCPS facilities, including buildings used by Charles County Parks and Recreation. This is a precautionary closure as the weather event is set to continue in the area on Sunday.
Monday, Jan. 26
Monday, Jan. 26, is a planned semester break; students are already off for the day.
If CCPS closes on Monday for staff, the semester break will be rescheduled to another day next week. This means students will not attend school on a rescheduled semester break day likely held next week because teachers need contracted grade preparation time for report cards. The report card posting date may change, too.
Future schedule changes
Any change to our operating status – such as a closure or delay – will be shared with you in advance by email and text message (text Y or YES to 67587 – your cell phone number must be on file with CCPS in our student information system), posted on our website at www.ccboe.com, social media outlets (Facebook and Instagram – please be kind to staff who post these updates on social), shared with local media (although they often do not report or can misreport) and recorded on our 24-hour information line at 301-934-7410.
Please stay safe and warm, enjoy the snow with your kids, check on your family and neighbors, and monitor our platforms for any operational changes that could affect next week’s schedule.
Sincerely,
Maria V. Navarro, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
