Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) has partnered with a new state government department focused on service learning to promote a new program for youth. The new state Department of Service and Civic Innovation is piloting a service program pathway to education and career opportunities for community members who either recently completed high school or are looking for a career change.

As part of the pilot, two opportunities are available: Service Year Option or Maryland Corps. The Service Year Option is an opportunity for those who recently completed high school (those who graduated in 2020-2023), received a high school completion certificate or earned a GED in Maryland.

Participants in the program will be matched with a partner organization that will provide job training, mentorship and other resources. Additionally, participants will earn $15 an hour and receive weekly focused professional development.

Recent CCPS graduates can apply online at https://serving.mdgov/auth/signup. Deadline to apply for the pilot program is Sept. 1. For the pilot year, only 250 participants statewide will be selected.
