Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is now accepting applications for the Extended Day Program for high school students. The program is open to students at the following high schools: Henry E. Lackey, La Plata, Maurice J. McDonough, Thomas Stone and Westlake. These schools have period schedules (to take seven credits) versus the block schedules (to take eight credits) in place at North Point and St. Charles high schools.
Through the program, students can take specific courses for original credit outside of the regular school day to meet graduation requirements. Courses are offered during two semesters, fall and spring, and include the following full and half-credit courses. Students can earn one credit per year through extended day.
· Health I (.5 credit, 6-week session)
· Health II (.5 credit, 6-week session)
· Personal Financial Literacy (.5 credit, 6-week session)
· Fitness for Life (.5 credit, 6-week session)
· Exploring Computer Science (1 credit)
· Art I (1 credit)
All extended day courses are virtual and accessible through Canvas and the Edmentum platform. Students must have access to a reliable device and internet in order to participate. Priority is given to students in Grades 11-12. Students in Grades 9-10 can apply and will be accepted if space is available.

Semester 1
· Oct. 12 through Jan. 13 (for 1 credit courses).
· Session 1: Oct. 12-Nov. 18 (for .5 credit courses).
· Session 2: Nov. 23-Jan. 13 (for .5 credit courses).
Semester 2
· Feb. 8 through May 5 (for 1 credit courses).
· Session 1: Feb. 8-March 17 (for .5 credit courses).
· Session 2: March 22-May 5 (for .5 credit courses).
Registration for Semester 2 opens in January 2027.
How the program operates
· Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4 to 7 p.m., including early dismissal days.
· Students must attend one weekly Zoom session and complete all assignments.
· Reliable device, internet and Zoom app required.
· Grades count toward GPA and are notated on report cards (Quarter 2 for Semester 1, and Quarter 4 for Semester 2).
· Drop deadlines:
o Semester 1: Oct. 23.
o Semester 2: Feb. 19.
· Students with early release schedules are not eligible.
· Parents can monitor progress in ParentVue.
