The application window for students to apply to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs will be open from 8 a.m., Oct. 23, to 3 p.m., Nov. 14.
All CCPS eighth graders can apply for CTE programs with high school sophomores eligible to apply for specific CTE programs. CTE staff will continue to visit middle and high schools through Wednesday, Oct. 18, to discuss program options with eighth and 10th graders.
Virtual, in-person information nights

An open house at North Point High School is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19. The event, open to eighth graders and their parents, will showcase the school system’s CTE programs and pathways. Along with information about programs housed at North Point, staff of the CASE: Natural Resources and Agricultural, the dance pathway and the new theatre pathway will attend the open house to discuss the programs housed at Maurice J. McDonough High School. During the open house, CCPS staff will provide an overview of the application process.
The Robert D. Stethem Educational Center will hold a Spotlight on CTE event for current sophomores and their families from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, at the center. Stethem is the base for several CTE programs which CCPS high school students start in their junior year.
Programs, pathways available
Programs available at Stethem for sophomores are barbering, pharmacy technician, physical rehabilitation, automotive technology, HVAC and interactive media. Students enrolled in the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute program will attend specific classes at the Southern Maryland Regional Training Center in La Plata.
Eighth graders can apply for acceptance at North Point to take CTE programs such as certificated nursing assistant, automotive technology, child development professionals, biotechnology, CISCO networking academy, collision repair, construction, design and management, culinary arts, cyber security, drafting and design, electrical construction, engineering, graphic communications and welding.
CTE programs housed at Maurice J. McDonough High School include CASE: Natural Resources and Agriculture as well as the dance program and the new theatre program.
Each CCPS high school has CTE pathways for students that require no application. All high schools offer programs in business management, computer science, JROTC, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science, PLTW Engineering (North Point does not offer the two PLTW programs), ProStart food and beverage management and the Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM). Eighth-grade students should talk to their school counselor during course selection about programs offered at the high school they will attend in ninth grade.
